Isle of Man-based Derwent Holdings will appeal against what it calls Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council's “inappropriate” decision to allow a 155,000 sq ft Tesco to be built next to the Old Trafford cricket stadium. Gerard Carney, a spokesman for Derwent Holdings, which is owned ...by veteran entrepreneur Albert Gubay, said: “We will lodge an appeal shortly. I am concerned that the cricket club redevelopment may get bogged down due to the crossfire between Derwent and Tesco over the coming months. This is avoidable if common sense prevails. It is unfortunate the matter will have to be referred to the Secretary of State to rectify an inappropriate decision, which has been reached for political, rather than planning, reasons.”
